Hello and Welcome to old friends and new acquaintances. Barnibyke is the original recumbent manufacturing business venture I started in 1985. It was born of my inability to purchase a recumbent that met my requirements. Barnibykes which precipitated the transmogrification from "State of the Art" to "Creation of the Art", remain today, in my own less than humble opinion, one of the best single bent designs available. The basic design is short wheelbase (SWB) with under seat steering (USS). It uses a 20 inch front wheel, and a 27" 700" or 24" rear, depending upon the model. That design has been updated but not yet subjected to all testing to add front and rear suspension, disk brakes, fabric fairing, tandem potential and electric assist (Darkstar).

The Barnibyke is the heart of the system of several terraquatic human powered vehicles I have designed, built and raced. Thoses systems include "Pope Garlic Tofu's Alligator Express" and "ALEG8R".

One of the things that happened on my path to recumbentdom was that I met Bill Graham, coming out of the back of a Grateful Dead concert, while I was riding my bike. He was surprised and asked if it was easy to ride. I jumped off, told him how to position his foot for takeoff power, and ran next to him for about 30 seconds till he had it down. I had met him several times in my life, all at Dead shows. Except once, he was a congenial and benevelent man. That time the Firedepartment was trying to shut down the show, and Bill and a bunch of Football Players were throwing dancing heads out of the aisle and into the chairs. (Portland, 1981). At one concert he told a story about "This is IT" and that is a bit about what was originally THISisIT.com (now a subsidiary of the Macy's group). Hu
